The "Online Safety Act" is an irrational, ill thought out and unnecessary piece of nonsense...

Today, I was asked to verify my maturity regarding a Substack piece on a subject that did not require such nonsense three days ago...and in another medium, either...I'm an old Luddite, and I abhor censorship mis-applied...

It is the wish of the population that there should be unfettered communication...but that drives censorship...Without one, the other cannot exist...

MiriAF has been writing on the same topic and has arrived at a similar conclusion - that the policy is all about ending anonymous account creation. https://miri.substack.com/p/identity-crisis

“The welfare of the people in particular has always been the alibi of tyrants, and it provides the further advantage of giving the servants of tyranny a good conscience.” (Albert Camus)

Old Camus...right again :)

"But the greatest hurdle will be pushback from internet freedom campaigners and ordinary adult users who will baulk at having to provide personal information or facial recognition scans to tweet or post photos from Granny’s birthday party."

I like your optimism, but don't entirely share it. This "government" simply does exactly what it likes, ignores even reasonable engagement and critique, and smears anyone who doesn't toe its line.

I think we need something like Together's "No Digital ID" pledge. ALL UK social media users should pledge to simply not use social media for a period of X days, starting from when Our Betters implement the idiotic "age checks". Pledge it, and do it.

Individuals doing it for themselves is always much more powerful than pledges through organisations harvesting email addresses.

I see the NI Education Minister, Paul Givan, has welcomed the ban. MLA Claire Sugden said on FB on Monday that although Stormont has no power to overrule the ban, she was interested to hear people's viewpoints. https://www.facebook.com/ClaireSugdenMLA. There were many opposing voices, but no response from her. The Marxist Sinn Fein, SDLP and Alliance parties will welcome it with open arms. Onwards we march to digitally enslaved Global Communism.

No surprise that Givan has welcomed the ban - this type of authoritarian control comes naturally to those on the doctrinal 'right' (such as the DUP, Reform, and Restore). But this technocratic Zionist type of authoritarianism tends to favoured by the woke left too. Welcome to the Uniparty.

For a truth commentator to not point out the bleedin' obvious conclusion - that age verification is to nudge adults into getting digital ID verification - is eye-opening.

I have made that point clearly in the piece and repeatedly on Twitter.
