I do hope so.
One of the things I've been attempting to write tales of, what are essentially horror, with happy endings. Not an easy thing to do actually.
I certainly do see the value in fiction.
My last job made me ill. It was in tech. It's not that the people were bad. It's rather that the system has become one of technocracy, micromanagement and fear. I picked up Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged and began reading it on my first day in the job. At 5pm, every day, I would head to Costa to read it for a few hours before coming home to take a sleeping tablet (only way I could sleep in the job) and going to bed. I lasted 3.5 months, and finished Atlas Shrugged on my last day. Found the book radicalising. I haven't tried to work for any corporation since.
