Many Scottish towns and villages used to run 'Lunch clubs' to enable older people to socialise. They virtually all were axed to save costs.

"What the son abjectly lacks in his total conversion to the digital age is empathy, the ability to see things as if you were in the other’s shoes"---especially lacking in today's society ,it seems. I queue in shops, I tell the cashiers why, it would help if they appeared to give a damn or even seemed as if they wanted to serve me.
